If science’s progress, or growth, is the result on “standing on the shoulders of giants” (to borrow the title of a Stephen Hawking’s book reviewing the works, or contributions. of Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Newton, Einstein) this phrase’s origins are really on John of Salisbury in 1159 AD.
There is a glaring error in Hawking’s treatise, that Neil deGrasse Tyson, in the attached video question fails also to mention; that of the mind and soul of Thomas Aquinas, perhaps the real Father, in centuries since of empirical discovery. So vast are Aquinas’ writings (ethics, natural law, metaphysics, etc.) or which only a fraction, to this very day, has be fully translated from the Italian and Latin, and Aquinas’ horrifically bad penmanship.
You see, invention, is really merely taking the next probable step already proven or known by others, under the guidance or grace of our Creator (Aquinas went to lengths to suggest and prove “vision” is ordained from God).
