Several things have happened, in the past few days, I wish to share with you.
Firstly, I had a burst aneurysm, in my left inner ear, which could have been far worst; but to quote the late actor, Steve McQueen, at the end of the movie ‘Papillion’: “I’m still here you bastards!”
Fear not, Uncle Russ is well on the road to recovery.
Secondly, I attended an awards ceremony today, in which Catarina-Angela, our 8th grade daughter, received several honors today, including Valedictorian (perfect GPA).
Why, other than a boasting, or proud father, would I bother you, with such personal details?
Because, like much in this life, we are gently, or overtly, reminded, from time to time, of each of our own mortality, whether we want, or deserve, it.
Today, Cati, our 13 year old, reminded me of ‘7 Dangers To Human Virtue’, postulated by Mohandas Gandhi.
I do not care if you are Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Hindi, Baha’i, Muslim, Taoist, Shinto, Atheist, Agnostic, Pagan, or whatever, these ‘7 Dangers To Human Virtue’ apply to any living soul.
1) Wealth Without Work
2) Pleasure Without Conscience
3) Knowledge Without Character
4) Business Without Ethics
5) Science Without Humanity
6) Religion Without Sacrifice
7) Politics Without Principle
I ask each of you to consider, and please KNOW, one can attain very little of lasting benefit to others, or for that matter, oneself, without each and every one of them!
